Khenemara Argon'atsu

Mosteera II

"Khenemara Argon'atsu, the younger twin sister of Khesinari, was a woman of profound beauty and sharper wit. Though they shared the same features—the dark, sun-kissed skin, the golden flecks in their emerald eyes, and the cascade of jet-black and green curls—Khenemara possessed a demeanor altogether different. Where Khesinari moved with the quiet grace of a river, Khenemara was a desert storm, her presence commanding attention and her voice, when raised, like the echo of thunder across the dunes.

Raised as a princess of the Le'keshna Tribe, Khenemara learned early the art of persuasion and the strength found in words. She was her father’s shadow during councils, observing how decisions were shaped not merely by strength but by the delicate push and pull of willpower. The elders of the Le'keshna often remarked that Khenemara had the tongue of a serpent and the heart of a lioness. It was this blend of cunning and courage that would later draw the eye—and the heart—of Zumaridi Argon'atsu III."-  Passage from The History and Legends of Adyntia, by Sir Warth Fallow.

The Courtship of the Mostereem

When Zumaridi first wed Khesinari, the union was a celebration of power and tradition. The Le'keshna welcomed the Mostereem of Adyntia as both a king and a son. Khenemara watched from the shadows of the sacred tents, her mind a tempest of curiosity. Unlike her sister, she had not sought out a husband among the Ha’remu at the Sut’raam Ahket, preferring instead to remain unclaimed and unbound. She had no intention of being just another jewel in a crown—her ambitions lay in the shaping of destinies.

It was during the early months of Zumaridi’s marriage to Khesinari that he began to notice Khenemara. Their conversations started innocuously enough—brief exchanges during councils, shared glances over ceremonial fires. But what began as curiosity grew into fascination. Khenemara could cut through courtly deception with a single word, and when Zumaridi made declarations, it was she who dared to challenge him, questioning his plans and offering alternatives. Her sharp mind and unyielding spirit were a novelty to a man accustomed to immediate obedience. Where others bowed, Khenemara stood tall, and this defiance, wrapped in elegance, ensnared him.

As his feelings deepened, Zumaridi understood that to truly bind the Le'keshna to his throne, he needed Khenemara at his side—not merely as an advisor but as a queen. He approached her parents, Chief Nema’kesh and the matriarch Sarenya, with a proposal of marriage. It was not a request borne of necessity but of genuine affection and respect. The elders agreed, seeing in this union not only the cementing of alliances but the birth of a powerful dynasty. And so, in a ceremony beneath the silver gaze of the twin moons, Zumaridi took Khenemara as his second wife, the sands of Adyntia swirling like a blessing around them.

The Gift of Ankh’Tahar

Khenemara was not only wise and beautiful but also a practitioner of a rare art known as Ankh’Tahar, or The Breath of Eternity. This mystical power allowed her to influence life and death, not through the spirits of the dead as her sister did, but through the manipulation of time and vitality. Khenemara could touch a dying man and slow the ebb of his life, granting precious moments that turned the tides of many battles. She was known to bless warriors with extended vigor, allowing them to fight for days without rest, or to curse enemies by drawing the vitality from their bodies, leaving them as withered husks beneath the desert sun.

Her greatest display of Ankh’Tahar was during the Siege of the Gilded Pass. When Zumaridi’s armies were surrounded by the enemy, she stood upon the fortress walls, her arms outstretched, and drew the life from the very land beneath the invaders' feet. Crops withered, their mounts collapsed, and even the air seemed to age, choking their lungs with dust. The enemy fled, their spirits broken, and the legend of the Queen of Time spread through Evernia.

A Legacy of Sons

Khenemara bore Zumaridi three strong sons, each marked by the legacy of both the Argon'atsu and the Le'keshna. Where Khesinari’s sons inherited the art of Nehekhara, Khenemara’s sons were trained in the ways of Ankh’Tahar. They became not only warriors but also temporal guardians, able to manipulate time within the bounds of battle, turning defeats into victories.

Her eldest, Prince Iniquitous, was a tactician whose strategies accounted for every heartbeat on the field. Her second son, Prince Calamitous, was a diplomat who could speak with the wisdom of ages, his negotiations rumored to slow the very passage of time to his advantage. The youngest, Prince Pernicious, bore the title of The Eternal Blade, for he could imbue his sword with the essence of endlessness, each cut a wound that would never heal.

Khenemara’s sons solidified Zumaridi’s legacy, ensuring that the throne of Adyntia would never lack a worthy heir. The kingdom's enemies soon learned that to face the Argon'atsu family was not only to battle men and dragons but to challenge the very flow of time itself.

The Queen of Unyielding Will

Though Khesinari was the heart of House Argon'atsu, Khenemara was its spine. Her influence extended beyond the palace walls, shaping policies, advising generals, and maintaining the fragile balance between tradition and progress. She built schools where the art of Ankh’Tahar could be studied, ensuring that her power would not die with her but become a cornerstone of Adyntian culture.

Even Zumaridi, who had seen countless battles and faced the fiercest foes, would often find himself silent when Khenemara spoke. Her will was an iron blade wrapped in silk, and those who underestimated her learned quickly that her beauty was but the mask of a storm. She could sway councils, settle disputes, and even alter the course of wars with nothing more than her voice.

Her marriage to Zumaridi became a symbol of unity, not only between the Le'keshna and the Argon'atsu but also between power and wisdom. Together with Khesinari, the three ruled as a triumvirate—Zumaridi the conqueror, Khesinari the healer, and Khenemara the strategist. Their combined influence ushered in an age of prosperity and strength, and the tales of their reign would echo through the sands of Adyntia for generations.
